About

Who We Are

NYC Open was formed by a group of New York City Residents who support repealing NYC Code § 10-125, which prohibits the consumption of alcohol in public. The NYPD issues over 40,000 open container violations per year. This unnecessary and archaic law is a central pillar of so-called "broken windows policing" and is unevenly enforced against poor and working people, and people of color. We also support measure to make public parks and streets more accessible, and investment in public facilities, including public restrooms. We are in favor of a more social and livable city.

Our Platform

NYC Open has 3 demands for a more livable city:

  • Abolish open container violations in New York City

  • Expand public park hours, and eliminate "park after dark" citations and summonses

  • Fund and maintain open public facilities, including public restrooms
